Strangely, the volume control icon at the top of the screen keeps resetting its output to zero, even if I've just reset it to full. Watching a video today which gave such short durations, I found that if I paused it, and then started it again, I again got another burst (sometimes). Occasionally, I get a short burst of audio, but never longer than about 5 seconds. Starting last night, I've had no audio from iTunes, YouTube video, etc. Please help me solve this issue, any suggestions are welcome! This is my main computer so it's extremely important that I fix the audio. Theoretically it would work if I reinstalled the OS, but waiting 4 hours for my system to reinstall every time I want to listen to music is not very practical. I was able to get sound to work right after I updated the software (speakers and headphones worked flawlessly, so definitely NOT a bad headphone jack/speaker), but after one restart volume was back to grayed out and nothing I tried could fix it. NONE of these things fixed my issue - the volume is still grayed out and sound will NOT work (iTunes, quicktime, youtube, etc. Updating to the latest version of High Sierra and attempting all of these processes again Plugging in/unplugging headphones over and over, including during restarts, SMC resets, etc.ħ. Attempting to repair disk permissions with first aidĦ. Quitting coreaudio via activity monitorĥ. Here are the many things I have tried over and over that are NOT fixing my issue:Ĥ. The USB-C after restart problem doesn't bother me personally, as I almost never restart my Macbook.The volume/sound on my MacBook air suddenly stopped working, is grayed out, and shows a not permitted symbol when I try to adjust it. Doesn't matter if it's an Apple or Dell problem. I can't control the sound volume on Mac.

Extremely frustrating as I want to do video calls at work and can't hear other people sometimes!ĭell Support told me to install the Windows drivers and utilities that are available via Dell, well it doesn't even solve the problem on Windows! They must do something on this issue, maybe a firmware update. Sometimes the issue goes away after some minutes, sometimes not.
Often random problems where the speaker sound is very thin.For me, I bought this to replace multiple devices:īecause in online reviews, the speakers were praised for being "great for monitor speakers" and this is just enough for my taste, I thought I don't need external speakers anymore as they take up space on my table. What the priority issue is, will be different for different people.
